Style Focus - ‘ Devon Lee Carlson’

‘She’s an icon, she’s a legend, she’s Devon Lee Carlson. Born in California, Devon Lee, is a girl of the moment and has been for the last decade. I was first introduced to the all American gal through her ex-boyfriend, Jesse Rutherford, the lead of my childhood favourite band 'The Neighbourhood'. Devon took ‘rockstar girlfriend’ to the next level. The lore she has created around herself and her style is one that is meticulously tailored, yet approachable, relatable and very relaxed, making her easy to follow and admire.

Devon would post for her millions of followers backstage with the band at Coachella, hanging out with her gang of supermodel and influencer best friends but also post herself making breakfast, running errands, all while still looking like the ultimate cool girl. So how did she do it? By being herself.

There’s a hyper relaxedness to her approach to fashion, she wears what she wants and she looks cool doing it. Nostalgia also plays a big role in her wardrobe. Ed Hardy, True Religion, Juicy Couture, graphic tees, leopard print, low rise jeans with flip flops and a crop hoodie, it’s effortless, very well done, and probably meticulously thought out. Don’t be fooled by her style nonchalance, as it seems to be a recipe for Uber fashion success. Devon is a favourite of Yves Saint Laurent, is a fixture on Vogue.com, she’s collaborated on a collection with Marc Jacobs as well as frequently working with Dolce & Gabbana.

I think what makes Devon’s style so great is that she is clearly dressing for herself, her taste and what she feels comfortable/ good in. For the most part, there is also a sense of accessibility to Devons wardrobe. She’s pictured with one of greatest supermodels of our generation, and also her best friend, Bella Hadid in a pair of worn UGGs and bluejeans, she pairs plain back flip flops with a black dress, she wears Adidas shorts and a graphic tee to grab coffee but she never looks untidy nor like she just rolled out of bed. A modern day, Jane Birkin, jeans, a t-shirt and looking effortlessly fabulous, love to see Devon coming.
